GIMMY - Labour of Love (TES046)

About The Release

Australian indie rocker, GIMMY announces her forthcoming EP Labour of Love, set for release Feb 27, 2026 via Third Eye Stimuli Records. Where her 2024 debut album Things Look Different Now was a sprawling two-to-three year journey of change and introspection, Labour of Love arrives with a different kind of energy: intuitive, immediate and deeply in tune with the frontwoman, Gemma Owens’ emotional landscape.
Written over six months, Labour of Love is a raw and emotionally charged collection recorded in an intensive 4–5 day burst with producer Sam Joseph (King Gizzard, Babe Rainbow). Armed with strong pre-production and sharpened ideas, the EP captures the immediacy and cohesiveness of the band locking in together.
The seven tracks explore social anxiety, loss, falling in love and the beautifully chaotic honesty of daily life — each song arriving “on its own terms” through moments of home writing, travel inspiration and full-band collaboration. Blending gritty indie rock, punk edges and tender poetic folk expression with a uniquely Australian charm, the EP draws connection to bands such as Soft Play, Nick Cave, Fontaines D.C., The Preatures and The Smiths, while remaining distinctly GIMMY.
“Like most of my writing, the EP came through on its own terms, each song in its own timing. Often my songs are expressions of processes, inner closures or understandings of what I experience in daily life. This particular body of work has mixed concepts of social anxiety, loss of loved ones, falling in love, developing a deeper understanding of life in honesty and celebrating its chaos.”
GIMMY playfully wears her heart on her sleeve, even down to the front cover artwork, where her mum and dad are seen having a “cheeky pash in their local pub in Northern Ireland, back in the day”. Labour of Love captures GIMMY at her most expressive, dynamic, emotional and powerfully alive.
